Hope all of you have had a good April! To be honest with you, I'm extremely happy to bid this month farewell--it's been a tough one for some of our dear friends and extended family members. We're fine here--our hearts just hurt for their pain. We're simply taking things one day at a time and doing our best to be supportive. Stitching has helped a bit--I don't feel that I was very productive this month, but I do have three small finishes to share with you today.
My March ornament is this charming Soda Stitch Design piece that I purchased on Etsy for only a few dollars. (You can find it right here, if you're interested). I like my ornaments on the smaller side, so I stitched it "over one" on 25 ct. black Lugana using most of the suggested DMC colors. The only changes I made were to substitute DMC 3345 for one of the shades of green and to use DMC 3799 on the roofs of the teeny houses. I just love the sleeping Santa as he cradles the little town in his long, flowing beard. This is called "Santa Village" and, for the finish, I surrounded it with red handmade cording and topped it with two different bows and a silver bell. The red and white snowflake fabric in the back is what I used on the other side of the ornament. I'm so pleased with the final look!

My finish of "Christmas Village"
And, I stitched two Christmas ornaments for two new babies! Both will look familiar, especially the first one as this is the fourth time I've stitched it! Sadly, the chart is no longer available since the death of designer Brooke Nolan of Brooke's Books fame. It is called "Remy Rabbit" and I'm so glad I printed it off way back when it was first offered. Just a reminder--print off those freebies while you can! So many are removed from websites after a few years and are then no longer available. I used 40 ct. water green Newcastle and some of the suggested DMC colors along with a few of my own choices. Quite a few snowflakes were added to shape it into an oval and I added the baby's name underneath. The new mom told me it brought tears to her eyes when she opened my gift...

"Remy Rabbit" for a sweet baby girl
My second baby ornament finish (arriving a bit late as this baby girl is turning one in June!), is this cute piece by Tiny Modernist called "Snow Much Fun at the North Pole." I also used 40 ct. water green Newcastle for this one (my last tiny scrap of this wonderful fabric). I changed up the colors for this one using pink and gray along with the black and white that were suggested in the chart. I then stitched the baby's name at the bottom of the snow globe, glued a miniature white pom-pom onto the penguin's hat, added pink and white cording, and topped it with a perky, pink polka-dot ribbon at the top. The backing fabric is the pink gingham fabric on the left. You can find the chart for this cute design in the 2017 Just Cross Stitch Ornament magazine.

I've always loved pink and gray together and thought they worked especially well for this little girl's ornament.
If the above ornament looks familiar, I also stitched it for my oldest grandson's second Christmas back in 2021 using different colors. As you can see, I used the more traditional Christmas red and green for his. This is such a sweet design and you could personalize it with many different color combinations.

The same ornament stitched in different colors for Mister B for his second Christmas in 2021.
I'm nearly done fully finishing my ornament for April so I'll share that with you next time! What are you stitching these days? Or are you too busy with gardening this time of year? Our gardens are going to have to just limp along this year as my husband is still not able to do any heavy lifting or digging since he's still recovering from his shoulder replacement surgery in January. But, that's okay--I'd so much rather he fully recover before he does anything that might cause problems.
Giveaway... As I mentioned in a previous post, my sweet friend April (in Virginia) gifted me with a wonderful assortment of small charts to share with you as giveaways. I thought one of you might like to stitch these classic Lizzie Kate patriotic charts if you haven't already done so. I actually stitched the one with the tall, skinny house way back in 2009 and I'm thoroughly embarrassed to admit that I never fully finished it! Maybe this year?

If you'd like to win this LK chart, please follow the guidelines below:
If you would like to throw your name into the hat to win the above Lizzie Kate chart (both designs are included in this one chart!): 1) Please specifically say so in your comment, 2) Be sure to leave your email address if I don't already have it, and 3) Tell me the name of your favorite patriotic design finish and why you like it so much. Mine is "Fourth of July Picnic" by Samplers Not Forgotten--just love the old-fashioned look of it, the button tree, and that cute pup! I stitched it back in 2023--you can read about my finish right here. I'll pick a winner for the Lizzie Kate "Land That I Love" chart and post the name next month. Good luck to all!

My favorite patriotic finish: Fourth of July Picnic
Statin update... I want to thank all of you who weighed in on your experiences with statins for cholesterol control. I'm pleased to say that I "think" my body has finally adjusted to the increased dosage. My cardiologist doubled it from 5 mg. to 10 mg. back in January and I was truly thinking about going back to the 5 mg. dosage due to increased muscle and joint soreness. But, all of a sudden... things seem to be almost back to normal. I had my lipid panel blood test last week and all of the results were good so I'm happy! Hope they stay that way!
It hasn't been the best year for our gardens as I mentioned above. Many of the cherry blossom trees suffered from the black knot fungus this year and the crab apple trees barely bloomed, possibly from apple scab fungus. So, not the prettiest of springs. But we did manage to get a few colorful flowers...

Aren't these tulips beautiful? I'm so thankful that may husband planted the bulbs last fall for me to cut and bring inside this spring!
Random thoughts for the month...
*Believe it or not, my younger grandson, Baby N, turns one year old next week! How time flies as we've watched in awe all the changes a baby goes through during those first twelve months.
*I just finished listening to a book that I gave a rare 5-star rating to called "The Sunflower House"--the debut novel by Adriana Allegri. Have any of you read it? Set in Nazi Germany, it deals with the notorious Lebensborn program where young women of "pure" blood were placed in houses specifically to give birth to future Aryan children, thus perpetuating the "master race." Over 8000 babies were born in this program in Nazi Germany.
*Only another six weeks 'til my youngest son's wedding. I'm trying not to stress, but it's just in my nature. I did find a dress which looks fairly decent on my 71-year-old body. I think I'm going to be the oldest person attending the wedding--now that is really something to make you think!
*My youngest son visited us last week for a few days and, boy, did we
need his positivity and cheerful demeanor. You see, my husband lost his
second biking friend in less than two months in mid-April. There was a
core group of five guys and now only three remain. We always joked that the guys saw more of each other than they did of their wives as they biked at least three times a week for hours at a time. You just never
know when your time is up, do you? Their biking community is still in
shock after losing two such special friends so close together. That
really makes you think about how to live your life, doesn't it?
Surround yourself with positive people and treat yourself to beloved hobbies,
travels, and new experiences while you can.
And, on that note, I'll say goodbye for this month. On to May! I want to thank each of you for popping in and saying "hello" whether in your comments or via email. I love hearing from you. Have a wonderful new month, my friends! Bye for now...

I'm sorry there's been pain in your family. One day at a time is the best idea. Sending healing thoughts to all involved. Please don't enter my name in your give away. I've won the past and considered it a huge blessing. Don't forget to take good care of yourself - you matter!!! Darlene J.
Grey and pink are a perfect match, your little winter ornament looks very delicate and elegant. Sorry to hear about your friends and extended family, hope everything will be fine soon. Your youngest son's wedding is just around the corner, please take care of your health and enjoy it to the full! :-)
Hugs.
Love that Santa!
The baby ornaments are so cute, love the pink & gray.
That's a great Patriotic piece.
Gorgeous flowers.
Happy Birthday to baby N!
Marilyn
The ornaments are so pretty, Carol. I can't wait to see what you stitched for April. I can't believe baby N will be one in a week. Time just continues to move at a rapid rate.
Oooh your Christmas ornaments are so sweet. What a precious gift to pass along. My favorite Patriotic stitch currently is America by Blackbird Designs. I have that July picnic pattern...just have not stitched it yet. No gardening here in Michigan yet. We had frost this week, and possible again this weekend. Another rainy day today so will be stitching and watching some of my favorite Flosstubes. Janice
I hope all those people you mentioned are feeling better, Carol.
I love everything you've embroidered lately.
The Christmas ornaments for babies are perfect!!
This time I won't be participating in the giveaway since I've won before, and as I'm not American, I want to give other people who want these beautiful patterns a chance.
I hope you'll share your outfit for your son's wedding with us.
I'm sure you'll be the most beautiful (and definitely the happiest) of the guests. Hugs
So sorry for another loss. I can't believe that new baby will be one?!?! Oh my goodness that went so fast.
Your finishes are perfection as always, and your cording additions have me twirling floss with a cup hook in my drill! That Lacis tool looks great but too many bad reviews regarding one or more rods stopping working. So my little drill is doing just fine.
Can't wait for wedding and Italy photos.
Once again I’m loving the finishes for your cross stitch projects. Sending healing thoughts for your husband and prayers for those of your friends and family in need of blessings. Seems we are at the age where our lives are interrupted with health issues and the shock of loss of dear friends, family and acquaintances. Thank you Carol, for being a ray of sunshine in my day today, it couldn’t have come at a better time! I am preparing for my husband to see a specialist today and find out what the plan of action will be for his illness. In closing I would like to wish Peace and Health to all.
PS-I Love the Santa ornament!
Hello, what beautiful stitching you do. I am just getting back to cross stitch and have just started my first patriotic project - a red white and blue beehive pattern from Pinker n punkin. I would love to win the patterns as I am just starting a collection. My email is cmberry@lsu.edu. Thanks and have a good May!
Carol, I think the things you mentioned at the end of your post are truly the things that pull us down in the latter years. Watching friends deal with health problems as well as lose them is really really hard. Also, not to be able to keep up with things that brought you joy in your younger days like that garden. I have had to really step back this year with the flowers and the look that I am used to... I just can't do it all. I could probably do more if I didn't help with the grandkids, but wow, that is my biggest blessing.
Now, for those stitches. As usual, your ideas and finishes are just adorable.
Spring has been so pretty here, which means yours is probably a little cooler than you would like. It has been good to me! Take care and here's to May!
I love all things Nautical and Patriotic. I'm looking for projects to stitch on an upcoming vacation and this design collection just calls out to me. I absolutely love it. So, yes, please add my name to your generous giveaway list. As to my favorite cross stitch patriotic design? Hard call, as I already shared I love all things Patriotic. But the God Bless America design, by Primrose Cottages is definitely a FAV.
I always look forward to your newsletter! As soon as it pops into my account, I sit down to read it! I love you sweet finishes. I must search for the Santa one. Also, I just ordered The Sunflower House. Can't wait to read it! Have a blessed day!
Yes, toss my hat in the ring! I just finished the Erica Michaels 250 berry and love how it turned out. We have had all the weather this spring in western PA!
Your finishes are perfect!
In spite of the sad times that come with life, your posts are always a joy to read. Your photos of the needlework and the flowers, occasionally of your home and yard -- all are pleasant "eye candy". Thank you for sharing joy with us. Oh, and enjoy the wedding. I strongly doubt you will be the oldest attendee. Compared to me, YOU ARE JUST A KID!!!
Love that Santa Village ornament, I saved a photo I found that someone had stitched on IG last year to remind me to stitch it once I get my stitching mojo back. Glad everything settled with your statins, it can be a worry getting used to new meds. So sorry to hear about your husbands biking buddy, yes things can change so quickly, we need to make the most or our time. Take care and I'm sure you look fantastic in your mother of the groom dress 😁
Hi Carol, as usual, your ornaments and finishes are just perfect. One of these days I must try cording. It makes such a nice finish. I love stitching everything patriotic and have stitched quite a few, large and small. My favorite is “Sweet Land” by Teresa Kogut. I love her eagles! I won’t enter your giveaway as I have quite a few waiting to be stitched! I can’t believe that your new grandson is already one! Where did that time go? My grandsons are both 5 already and that time flew by! I’m sorry about the loss of your friends. It’s hard to accept the fact that we’re getting older and this is what we all have ahead of us. But, you have a joyous occasion to look forward to! The dress seems to be a big worry, but I worried about my son’s wedding too and it was perfect! I’ll bet that your son’s will be, too! Enjoy the day! Cherie in WI
Good afternoon, dear Carol. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband's friend. I do send warm prayers. It is hard to believe Baby N is going to be 1 years old - that doesn't seem possible. Yes, time flies. Your Christmas ornaments are adorable. I wish you and your family a lovely month of May. Hugs.
So sorry for the losses, and for the loss of the 2nd biking buddy. Beautiful flowers and that orange is so pretty 😍 I received my 123stitch order yesterday an started it today. Glad your prescription has worked out. Wow, the wedding is coming on fast! It'll be spectacular I'm sure! Have a wonderful weekend😊
Lovely post Carol, love all your stitching and finishing .
And your flowers are beautiful.
How lovely another wedding life is good.
I am so sorry for your sad losses thou , life is so hard at times but we have to stay strong for all our loved ones .
We get happy times , but then the bad times are always around the corner to. You have allot of good times to come with your Sons wedding , how lovely is that .
Have a beautiful week hugs June.
What a lovely post and beautiful finishes on the baby ornaments! You are very good with colors! That Santa finish is fabulous too!
Wishing you more happiness and sorry for the health issues and loses. Life can be hard... but you have much to look forward too! Your sons wedding - a glorious celebration! Continued healing wishes for your husband. We too are taking a break from most of the garden as my husband also had surgery and is on lift restrictions.... But soon the frost warnings will be over here and our flowers will be blooming! Enjoy the month!
I have to say I want to work on more patriotic stitching and Lizzie Kates are wonderful! My favorite that I have stitched for the 4th was Mouse's 4th of July Ride by Tiny Modernist. I am sorry I do not have a picture - I have been stitching the Mouse's series for my sister! So far I have stitched the Christmas Mouse, Lucky Day and Beach outing, and of course the 4th of July. Up next will be the Mouses' Halloween!
Enjoy the month! Love your flower pictures!
Hello and happy May Day! I have a friend (in Cape Cod) whose bday is in mid-June and I have been making her an annual cross stitch Patriotic "something" for a few years now - - sometimes it's framed, sometimes it's an ornament. I would so love to be the recipient of your give-away because it would be perfect as her gift (since I haven't yet started one for her). It seems like JUST YESTERDAY it was the Bicentennial year and everything was Bicentennial....everything. This time around, the big 250, no one can even remember what it's called - semiquincentennial. now that's a mouthful. But why is no one calling it that? Part of the dumbing down of America perhaps?? But I do love seeing all your completed 12 in 26's and love the pink one :) Happy May! Barbara from Wolverine Lk Mich rhubarb73@comcast.net
Hi Carol! I'm so sorry to hear about the losses and heartaches you and yours have been faced with as of late. However, I was happy to hear that you are feeling better and that your husband's shoulder is doing well. Your ornaments are as lovely as ever. I especially like the Santa with the long beard. I am such a sucker for round ornaments - especially if they feature cute houses and snowflakes! I always love reading your blog. Happy May Day! I hope your May is filled with sunshine, flowers, and joy!
Carol K.
Carol I love, love the Santa crescent ornament! It is just precious. Your work is beautiful! I also love the little stocking ornament you made for a new baby….no wonder the mother teared up! It is so precious. Aging is a challenge and losing friends is one of the saddest parts. I’m 87 now and have lost my best friend and a dear church friend in the last few years. Mother told me years ago to make younger friends, as she experienced the same losses. But you never replace someone who has years of memories to share. Life can be hard. I’m blessed with other church friends and a husband, who though having health challenges, can still get up each morning and share the day with me. I so enjoy your blogging and look forward to each visit with you. Take care. I’m sure you will be wonderful at your son’s wedding. Carol in Texas
Your flowers are beautiful. I really enjoy all the new displays in my beds as they come to life again. I would like to win the patriotic charts. I have been focusing on them this year. My favorite finish so far is Summer Jubilee by Blackbird designs. I changed the colors on this one quite a bit. My email is pbl4him@aol.com Thanks for the chance to win these charts.
