Thanksgiving Comes Again

Hello, my friends! I've been busily working on a surprise finish for you (although my buddies from the weekend stitching getaway already know about this piece). Just in time for turkey day, I'm so pleased to present my finish of Prairie Schooler's Book No. 141: "Thanksgiving Comes Again." I've been working on this one over the past month in between all my little ornaments and smalls. Even though stitching little things brings me the most pleasure, I do love a larger piece now and then...especially when the colors are as gorgeous as these!

This finish is stitched on my favorite 32 ct. flax Belfast linen with the suggested DMC threads. The tiny details in this piece really appealed to me: the steaming apple pie, the pumpkin-filled wheel barrow, the cornstalks left standing in the fields... I truly enjoyed stitching it all--even each of those words! So what are your Thanksgiving plans? Are you all busy gathering your food and supplies for next week's feast? I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving with my parents for the first time in almost 20 years and I so look forward to it. Now that they've moved up north again from Florida, it is much easier to get together for the holidays...My contributions to our feast will include a pumpkin pie, some pumpkin-cranberry bread, and a platter of cookies--all the goodies I love to bake so it's not a chore for me at all!

While wandering through Marshall's the other day, I stumbled upon the perfect frame for this LHN "Season Of Plenty" design that I had stitched a couple of years ago. It had been stuffed into a dark drawer since 2009 so I was thrilled to finally display it this autumn. Since I stitched this one "over one" it needed a tiny frame to show it off and I thought this dark walnut frame was ideal. I recently won another copy of "Season of Plenty" as part of Jane's wonderful giveaway so if any of you would like my second copy, please let me know in your comments. If there is more than one person who would like it, I'll have a drawing to determine the winner of the chart...

I wanted to include one more prize in the giveaway package that Annie won in my last post, so I stitched a black and white pincushion for her and filled it with crushed walnut shells. I'm so glad Annie enjoyed her black, white, and pink goodies--I know she'll put them to good use! (Several of you asked about purchasing a stitching bag like the one I offered in my recent giveaway. So if you would like to purchase one of your own, please email me for details.)

Christmas came early to my house when I received this gorgeous ornament from the talented Daffycat (aka Sharon). I was lucky enough to win her giveaway in honor of her 4th Blogoversary. Just look at this little beauty!! Sharon stitched and finished it so perfectly, that I think she could easily have a second career as a professional finisher... Don't you love the dainty ribbon and bead edging treatment. Even my husband who rarely notices my stitching unless I hold it right in front of his face, saw her ornament sitting on the kitchen counter and said, "Wow--that's finished nicely!" So, you know it must be true. Thank you again, Sharon... It will have a place of honor on my tree this Christmas!

A Blogger Photo Diplay Tip: So, do you dislike the new way Blogger is displaying our photos as much as I do? I really don't like the way my photos look on the black background that the new photo display uses... Well, I did a bit of research (yep, that librarian part of me is always researching things!) and found out that it is simply a matter of a making one click on the settings page of your blog. Here is the "unofficial" Google instruction page:

It worked for me! Just go to the proper setting and click "yes" or "no" in the box that says "Showcase Images With Lightbox". Easy as can be! I really prefer the photos opening in their own windows with the nice white background...

I probably won't be posting again until after Thanksgiving so I want to wish all of my readers, followers, and friends a wonderful holiday. I know Thanksgiving isn't celebrated world-wide, but I hope we can all find many things in our lives to be thankful for. We all have our stitching and this wonderful blogging/stitching community, right? Why even this plump squirrel has found some juicy berries on the tree by my front porch for which I'm sure he's thankful! Isn't he huge? Obviously, he's been feasting on nuts and berries to hold him over for the coming winter! I shot this photo through the glass window from inside my house and am amazed at how well it turned out. The berries have all been picked clean now, so I know Mr. Squirrel is resting happily after his feast!

Enjoy your Thanksgiving with friends and family and I look forward to visiting all of your blogs very soon to see your holiday stitching, decorating, and food. Don't forget to leave a note in your comment if you would like to win the LHN "Season of Plenty" chart! Bye for now...

I agreed with you, it's always a pleasure to stitch when the colors are so whimsical. :) Love the lovely frame you've chosen for Season of Plenty. And I love your fall display, too. That two little pumpkins are so cute!

I don't like the new photo display too. Thanks for the helpful solution to get rid of it. :) What a gorgeous pincushion you stitched for Annie! Such a sweet color combination of pink, black and white. Beautiful ornament from Sharon.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with your parents. :)

  24. Dear CArol!
I LOVE your new "Thanksgiving"-finish. I am really sad, that we do not have such a feast here in Austria - where we can stitch such wonderful designs for.
The ornament of Daffycat is really darling - I think I should copy the idea of the ribbon-pearl-edges ... wonderful!

Thank you so much for your tip concerning the lightbox. I disliked the new display as well - I changed my blog layout for having the possibility to show my pictures bigger right in the post.
But now I have change the setting as well.

Thank you for sharing the result of your research with us!

Thanks for the instructions on the pictures...I don't like that new way either. Can I mention that I have a hard time reading the writing on your blog....it kind of blends into the background. I wonder if you bolded all of it or used a different font? I hate to be a whiner; but your content is so fabulous that I want to read every word! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

  47. What a lovely finish, Carol! And just in time. :) Though I knew it was approaching, I feel like Thanksgiving has snuck up on me. I'm still waiting to hear which, if any, extended family is coming. I suspect I won't hear until the last possible moment (like last year). I'm particularly thankful that this year, the roast fowl will be ones that we have raised ourselves. :)

  48. Carol, congrats on your thanksgiving finish. It's wonderful and just in time for the holiday!

Gorgeous pincushion for Annie. I love the black, white and pink theme esp. the white stitching on black linen.

  49. OOoHhH! The best part is the Yellow House with Pumpkin Wheelbarrow in the yard! :D Well, the tumbling apples in the verse are also lovely!

I am so glad to hear about that blogger fix; I do despise the black "lightbox" view; unfortunately it is typical of the way the 'net is trending these last couple of years. Thanks for sharing the fruit of your research with us!

I am pondering recipes to make, like, "What about pumpkin bisque soup as a starter instead of pumpkin pie? Hmmnnn...Banana pudding with rum whipped cream could be the desert, then" or "Hey, squash casserole instead of dressing/stuffing sounds good!"

I still recall your Christmas cookies from last year–-take some photos of your beautiful baked goods for us and have a lovely time with your parents!

  64. I love your Thanksgiving PS picture Carol! The colors and lovely and the whole design is so beautiful! What I love in PS designs is that there are so many little details, so many things to discover, to keep watching. Just like in the "October" piece I got from you. I am planning to stitch two more bigger PS pictures in the (near) future, but right now I am so busy with Christmas preparations, stitching and sewing up ornaments, etc.

I also like very much the frame you chose for Season of Plenty. I think it match perfectly well. I am always so happy when I find a ready made frame for one of my stitches that fits perfectly. It adds to the pleasure that I can frame them myself.

The pincushion you stitched for Annie is absolutely charming, and I also like very much the two fabrics that are under it. Here it is so difficult to buy nice fabric for my ornaments. There are some shops that sell fabrics for patchwork, but not too many. I discovered one in the place where my boyfriend's family lives, but unfortunately we cannot go there for a while, until I recover.

You received a very nice ornament, I was looking this pattern for some time now, maybe one day I will stitch it too, because it is really charming :)

And thanks for the tip about blogger, I tried it and it works for me too! I really disliked the new way of displaying the pictures, the old one with the white background is much better.

And the photo of the squirrel is great! Here we do not see them but once I was in Finland and in a park they came very close, they even climbed on my legs to ask for food. It was only August, but they were already preparing for the winter.

    Wishing you a lovely week,

  90. Hi Carol!
Your PS finish is just lovely! And, that little frame you found is perfect for Season of Plenty. Those little squirrels with the acorns sitting by it are so cute! And, that's the longest tail I've ever seen on a real squirrel! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving!

  91. Happy Thanksgiving Carol!Love your Thanksgiving Comes Again! Nice job and the colors are stunning. I am thinking you'll have to draw names for the Seasons of Plenty. I'd be interested in your extra copy too and I love LHN. Could you email me info on the stitching bag? They are so cute I need to get one. Maureen
