Hello, everyone! I fully intended on posting last week, but then my grandsons arrived for four days and I was busy getting ready for their visit. And, of course, nothing stitching related got done while they were here--such busy, busy boys! So, how is everyone doing? Before I get to my stitching, I simply want to thank the many folks from around the world who left comments last time! I had no idea so many stitchers visited my blog and it truly warmed my heart to know I have "friends" all over the world who enjoy reading "Stitching Dreams!" Thank you, one and all!
If you've been following my stitching this year, you know I've fallen in love with Teresa Kogut's Santas! And a new one has joined the group... May I present "Green Coat Santa" from her "Hello, Santa" booklet (a truly wonderful collection of Christmas/Santa themed designs that I highly recommend). For me, her pieces offer pure comfort stitching just like my beloved Prairie Schooler designs. I used the suggested DMC threads with only a few changes (I used DMC 420 for the hat's pom-pom, changed the little snowman on the right to DMC 712, and stitched his stick arms in 612). I also satin-stitched the snowman's nose in DMC 921 and used Smyrna stitches for the eyes on Santa, the snowmen, and the reindeer. Finally, the main change I made was to leave off the black border.

He (along with the other two Santas I've finished), is stitched on 40 ct. vintage country mocha linen. I actually call him my "Jolly Green Giant Santa" because of the way the little deer are staring up at him as if in wonder. He sure is one big guy!

Joy, indeed! Stitching Teresa Kogut's designs always fills me with joy!

The gold, the red, or the green? Which Santa do you like best? For me, it's the big gold guy with the tiny snowman in his bag.
I purchased black rustic frames for each of them and fully intend on framing these before Christmas arrives. Hopefully, by putting that statement into words, I'll actually get it done :)
A few days before my grandsons arrived last Friday, I suddenly got it into my head that I wanted to stitch them each a little Halloween ornament! Luckily, the talented Melisa over at Pinker 'n Punkin Quilting has generously designed some quick-to-stitch Halloween freebies for us so I had no trouble stitching and finishing both of these cuties in three days.

A pair of not-too-scary Halloween ornaments for my grandsons. The orange and black polka-dot woolies flannel is what I used for the backing fabric.
For five-year-old Mister B, I stitched "Eek! A Spider!" on 40 ct. vintage country mocha Newcastle. I used DMC white, black, 3826, and 3347 for the colors and added a stitch of orange to the tips of each of the spider's legs. My grandson is already learning how to read so well in Kindergarten and proudly read "EEK" with no problem!

So, what will they do with their little ornaments? Well, I also gifted them a wrought iron "tree" that I'd bought years ago fully intending to make myself a Halloween tree. That never came to fruition, so I thought it best to get it out of the attic and pass it on. I planned on making an ornament each year for them to fill it up... But, after counting the remaining hooks, I realize that I'll be stitching these until I'm 93 years old as there are 46 open hooks! Um... not going to happen. So, maybe I'll try to make them each two a year? Of course, the boys can always make little decorations of their own to add to the tree--I hope they do!

Giveaway time... I came across this charming autumn chart the other day that I'd always intended to stitch, but never found the time (too many charts, not enough hours in the day as you know!). Would any of you be interested in stitching it? I've removed the pages of this sweet scene (a black kitty gazing at a wooden wheelbarrow full of autumn harvest) from an old Just Cross Stitch magazine (October 1999). The chart will be folded and mailed in a legal sized envelope to save on postage... I'll draw a name on my next post and all you have to do to enter is:
1) Specifically mention in your comment that you want to win the chart
2) Tell me your favorite places to purchase your cross stitching charts and supplies
3) Be sure to leave your email address if I don't already have it

To enter the giveaway for this chart, please follow the guidelines above. I'll draw the winner's name and announce it on my next post.
Q & A: I was asked by someone in a comment last time where I purchase my stitching items. Sadly, for me, everything (except DMC floss) has to be purchased online. We have no local cross stitch shops at all. The nearest is 1 1/2 hours away! So, online it is... My go-to shop is 123 Stitch although I occasionally buy from other online shops if I can't find what I want there. I also purchase charts from Etsy now and then, especially from foreign designers who offer only pdf charts. My frames are usually thrifted or I get them from Franken Frames online. I imagine it must be magical to have a wonderful local cross stitch shop nearby--I hope those of you who do know how lucky you are!
We so enjoyed our visit from our grandsons! Such busy little fellows... Mister B is so into reading and writing these days and loved the blank notebook that I gave him. He immediately began writing his own "chapter book" in it, complete with illustrations. So cute! And Baby N is just a charming, smiley bundle of love. He's rolling over, almost sitting on his own, and just a joy to be around. They'll be back for Christmas and I can hardly wait! Time to finish their ornaments...
I hope your October is going well and that you're finding more stitching time now that the days are growing colder and shorter. I do love fall and winter stitching because I don't feel guilty about the outside chores that I should be attending to! As long as the sun shines and I can stay inside, I really don't mind the cold, do you? Thank you, as always, for taking time out of your busy day to visit my little old blog. Enjoy your week, everyone! Bye for now...

Hello Carol, you did a good job with the Santas. They are really lovely. I am sure they look great when you have them finished. Yes Melisas' little stamps are cute. Some of them I have stitched for our Halloween Party this year. Gosh, my house will look haunted. My daughter brought 5 big boxes with deco and still not enough. I think Mr. B. would have fun.
Christmas ornies are stitched and still a lot of patterns on the computer.
Have a wonderful time, greetings
Gabi
Wonderful stitching .
I can just about see the photos , they are blocking me seeing your blog , I am not sure if anyone else has trouble ,
It says , Content is not viewable in your region, ! not sure why.
Hugs June.
First of all, know that you'll be embroidering until you're 103, so you'll have plenty of time to fill the tree with decorations. I also love Santa Claus in green; I've always had a passion for green, who knows why. I also buy my canvases and embroidery patterns online, but a shop has opened just five minutes from my house, and I buy the threads there even though they cost double. I love going to that shop.
Dear Carol I'm in love with that Santa Claus collection, and I agree that the gold one is my favorite. Since I won the last giveaway, I won't be participating in this one so other people have more chances. I'm glad you enjoyed your grandchildren these past few days and that you gave them that Halloween tree and those ornaments, which they'll treasure. I'm sure you'll all be completing it together. Hugs from Spain
Your Santas are fabulous, I like green, so I like the green Joy Santa.
The Halloween ornaments are too cute, Melisa is so generous with her free charts.
Love that tree!
I bet you can't wait for the boys to come back for Christmas! :)

ALL of your work is amazing and such beautiful and fun patterns! You are so inspiring and such a pleasure to read your blog! Happy Autumn! Hugs! 🍁🍂
I love your three Santas! Thank you for the great photos.
I would love to win the black kitty chart. I get my supplies from Fat Quarter shop or 123 Cross Stitch online. Email plautumn@yahoo.com
Those three Santas are glorious!!! Can't wait to see them framed! Love the idea of the Halloween tree for your grands....I had one at one point too, but never did anything with it, so it went to a friend who has put it to good use. So hard to believe Mr. B is in kindergarten...time sure flies by! I am so ready for cooler temps and had my first hot chocolate over the weekend.
Lovely stitching! The Halloween minis are perfect for the tree. I am in awe of your finishes…so many. My stitching progress seems to ebb and flow. AND I see patterns I want to stitch, down the rabbit hole I go!! Enjoy stitching in the fall sun!
Great stitching! I love those Santa's too! Especially that green one. I am Very lucky to have a great stitching shop a mile from our home!
Gold is my favorite as well. I absolutely love the Halloween ornaments and sadly, there are no cross stitch shops close by. I do most of my shopping online and since I can no longer drive, I am not able to get to a wonderful shop, Thistle, in Wethersfield, Ct. often
Well, it seems I need to get going on a few Teresa Kogut Santas! I love them too! Yours are beautifully stitched! I have a small local LNS but I usually order from 123 Stitch. Their flat rate shipping is less than the gas to the store and with them in Texas it rarely takes more than 2 days to receive! Finally we have cooled off overnight and looks like we may be out of the 90’s daytime temps even if it’s 80’s. Enjoy your time with your grandsons. As you know they grow so fast! Happy stitching!
I am also a Teresa Kogut fan. I adore so many of her cross stitch patterns. Last year I had a great time using a Christmas fabric line to sew a quilt for one of my granddaughters who is now married and out in the world. It has the Teresa folk art charm. My granddaughter loved it! I also love the 123Stitch shop because I, too, live in a small town. I have most of the DMC thread already. I really appreciate the price of their fabrics! Thank you for having a wonderful blog!
Hi Carol, I love the Teresa Kogut Santa’s, too! I haven’t stitched any yet but have the gold one kitted up. He’s my favorite but I love them all. Your Halloween ornaments are so cute and the tree is sure to become a family treasure. I am lucky enough to have a wonderful cross stitch shop about 40 min. away, in Green Bay. But, I do order from 123 Stitch occasionally. And, like you, my frames come from Franken Frames. One of our grandsons (4 yrs. old) will be here next week so I’m busy getting ready for him. Happy Halloween! Cherie in WI
Hey Friend, you are so talented--and love reading about your boys! Hi to Tim and love to you-- Ellen
No way one can be favored over the other for me. I have that booklet but am still leaning toward smaller projects. Her pink Santa from last year's retreat will be released soon to everyone. He's beautiful! Bet you need a rest after the boys!
Love all of Teresa’s designs, especially the Santa’s. My favorite is the red Santa, but I’m very interested in stitching the green Santa also. Those tiny deer are so cute.
Hello Carol,
all the three Santa's from Teresa Kogut are very beautiful. I love them and I like the pattern. This pattern is on my wish list.
I'm looking to your frames.
The tree for the Halloween ornaments are great. The two Halloween ornament for your grandchildren are very cute.
I must buy my cross stitch things online. I haven't a cross stitch shop in my town.
Have a nice time and a big Hugs, Manuela
It sounds like you had a wonderful visit with Mr. B and Baby N, Carol. The Halloween ornaments you stitched for them are adorable and what a cool looking tree. Your Green Coat Santa is darling. Love the little deer and snowman! So, what is the name of the not so local shop? 1 1/2 hours isn't too bad! Hard to believe we are about away from ending this month and beginning the next -ber month!
That is a lovely chart, Carol. But I’m currently stitching a fall piece from a Blackbird book, and I’m such a slow stitcher that I’d probably never get around to it. I love cats! That piece has a lot of outlining that I’m not crazy about. But it is charming. I remember getting each issue of that wonderful magazine years ago when I first started crossstitching. It was always a thrill. I too live too far from a stitching store….we’re out in the country in central Texas. So I usually order from 123Stitch. I appreciate their price cuts and their fairly rapid service. My Walmart has some DMC, but I’ve ordered many colors from 123Stitch that I cannot find here. I so admire your finishing. I’ve yet to finish any piece I’ve completed. Your Halloween ornaments are precious. I bet the boys will love decorating that tree each year. I always look forward to your blog entries. Your work is inspiring. Carol in Texas
Thank You for sharing your talent with all of us! Love receiving your letters, it’s become something I look forward to getting in my email. When I see it pop up I can’t wait to read it and see what you’ve been up to!
Of the 3 Theresa Kogut Santas my favorite is the gold as well. Love the snowman with him and the billowing smoke from the chimney of the house. I really am attracted to her work and have a number of her designs as well as some fabric that I recently purchased for a sewing project.
👻🎃 Happy Halloween to you and yours!
I can hardly believe I can send a comment from your blog. A first. I too love the good Santa best. Love many of Theresa Kogut designs. I’m also a big fan of Crocette a gogo. I have a small LNS but I still get a lot from 123 stitch and several others.
I envy your little grandkids. Mine have grown up mostly. I still have one who is 17 and another who is 15. I see them every week for dinner. I do have 8 all together. And 6 great grandkids and most live within 20 minutes from my house.
